What engines power the 2022 Jeep Wrangler
Five engines are available for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler lineup. The baseline is set by Jeep’s trusted 3.6L Pentastar V6. The Pentastar engine pumps out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the V6 engine provides low-end torque and a more appealing fuel economy with eTorque mild-hybrid technology. All Wrangler models are eligible for the 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine that supplies 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine is available for all Unlimited (four-door) Wrangler models and offers 250 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. The Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims are available with the all-new 4xe PHEV powertrain which mates a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine with two electric generators powered by a 400-volt rechargeable battery. On top of 56 MPG, the 4xe powertrain offers a whopping 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, a 6.4L V8 engine is exclusive to the Rubicon 392 trim ripping out a heart-pounding 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Standard equipment is a 6-speed manual transmission, while an 8-speed automatic transmission is available. However, the automatic transmission is standard on the 4xe and Rubicon 392 models.
What makes the 2022 Wrangler so capable?
When thinking about off-roading, the Jeep Wrangler is what comes to mind. This is by Jeep’s design by making the Wrangler the most capable off-road machine on the trails without settling. The Wrangler comes standard with Command-Trac part-time 4x4. Command-Trac uses two-wheel drive to preserve fuel efficiency while driving on smooth, dry roads. However, when drivers encounter rough terrain or inclement weather, they can shift into four-wheel drive and engage the rear wheels. The high and low 4WD modes allow drivers to select high or low range gearing, depending on speed. Selec-Trac 4x4 is a full-time system that automatically shifts into and out of 4WD and allows drivers to select 4-High and 4-Low modes. Lastly, Rock-Trac 4x4 is exclusive to the Rubicon and Rubicon 392 trim levels, offering superior off-road handling. The Rock-Trac transfer case has a 4:1 low-range gear ratio for better control while crawling at low speeds. The electronic locking front and rear differentials allow all four wheels to move at the same time for better traction. For added capability, the Rubicon also adds an electronically disconnecting sway bar, allowing the front wheels to move further up and down making it easier to overcome tough terrain.

If you’re looking for the same Trail Rated capability with some added comfort and convenience, consider the Sahara trim. The Wrangler Sahara adds black side steps, 18-inch alloy wheels, body-color fender flares, remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation. The top-shelf High Altitude trim offers traditional Wrangler ruggedness with a level of luxury. The Wrangler High Altitude features LED exterior lighting, a hardtop with a sunroof, leather upholstery, blindspot monitoring, Alpine premium audio with nine speakers, and more.
