What powers the 2022 Ram 2500?
The most important thing about a heavy-duty truck is its power, so let’s start there! The base engine provides drivers with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque from a 6.4L HEMI V8 allowing the Ram 2500 to haul up to 17,540 pounds. Cylinder deactivation disables four cylinders while coasting or decelerating to increase fuel efficiency. When more power is requested, those four cylinders are re-engaged to supply the power. For heavy-duty haulers, there is the 6.2L Cummins TurboDiesel I-6, pumping out 850 lb-ft of torque and 370 horsepower for the maximum towing capacity of up to 20,000 pounds! While both Ram 2500 engines mate to an 8-speed automatic transmission, drivers of a diesel variant can choose a 6-speed automatic transmission instead. While rear-wheel drive is standard for the Ram 2500, four-wheel drive is available for the entire lineup. The rugged Power Wagon, however, comes standard with 4WD.
