There are a few updates that Jeep gave to the Grand Cherokee for the 2023 model year, refining it to an even better version of itself. Most notably, the Laredo trim is the only trim level with an 8.4-inch touchscreen on the center stack, beginning at the Limited trim, the touchscreen sits at 10.1 inches. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is now exclusive to the 4xe plug-in hybrid lineup, as the electric power enhances its off-road performance with immediate torque. Beginning in 2023, the Limited and Overland trims have Alpine premium audio with nine speakers, delivering all occupants clear sound. The engine lineup for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is nothing shy of impressive. The standard 3.6-liter V6 offers drivers 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and the ability to haul up to 6,200 pounds. Meanwhile, a 5.7L V8 engine boosts the towing capacity up to 7,200 pounds with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. For the 2023 model year, the V8 engine was given Fuel Saver Technology, which uses the engine’s computer to deactivate four of the eight cylinders when the Grand Cherokee is coasting to save fuel. When additional power is requested, these four cylinders will reactivate to supply full power. Introduced for the 2022 model year, the 4xe powertrain brings hybrid power to the Grand Cherokee lineup for the first time. Available for the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit trims, the Grand Cherokee 4xe employs two electric motors, a 400-volt rechargeable battery pack, and a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine. This setup delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of immediate torque alongside the gas equivalent of 56 MPG. As standard equipment, the rear wheels are driven by an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, more common here in Pittsburgh is 4x4. The Grand Cherokee is eligible for Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential. Each system provides varying levels of all-terrain capabilities while offering superb traction when road conditions aren’t ideal.
