In 2022, a splash was made in the full-size SUV segment when the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer hit the market for the first time since their discontinuation in 1991. With unprecedented refinement and luxury accompanied by powerful engines and available 4x4, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer gained instant recognition from the luxury car community. Since the new Wagoneer is so popular, its designers pulled out all the stops for the 2023 model year, taking it to new heights. Bigger and Better Wagoneer L
The first update Wagoneer designers brought out for the 2023 model year is the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L variant. The Wagoneer L takes the base Wagoneer and adds twelve inches to the overall length and seven inches to the wheelbase, making them 226.7 inches and 130 inches, respectively. While the Wagoneer L models look colossal from the outside, inside, you’ll find best-in-class passenger volume, best-in-class second-row legroom, and best-in-class cargo volume. While the passenger volume is 179.3 cubic feet, the cargo capacity behind the third row is 44.2 cubic feet. Compared to the standard wheelbase, that is nearly 16 more cubic feet! Meanwhile, the second row keeps occupants comfortable with an incredible 42.7 inches of legroom!
All-New Hurricane Engine
The 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer were introduced with a 5.7L V8 and 6.4L V8, respectively. While these engines handled their business in terms of performance and capability, they were bulky and burned a lot of fuel. In an effort to create a more fuel-efficient future for the brand, Wagoneer engineers gave the 2023 models two variants of a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine. The first of the two Hurricane variants is the standard output. Under the hood of the Wagoneer lineup, the standard output Hurricane delivers 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. That's 28 additional horsepower and an additional 64 lb-ft of torque all while becoming more fuel-efficient. Meanwhile, the Grand Wagoneer’s high-output Hurricane adds 39 horses and 45 lb-ft of torque, bringing the numbers to 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
Blacked-Out Carbide Edition
The last, and what could turn into the most popular update, is the Wagoneer Carbide Edition. This special edition, available for the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, blacks out the model inside and out. Inside, a black headliner encompasses a tri-pane panoramic sunroof while the Global Black leather seats are contrasted by Smoke accent stitching. This Global Black leather with Smoke stitching continues throughout the cabin on the doors, dashboard, and instrument panel. Outside the Carbide Edition, you’ll find Diamond Black accents on the door flares, grille, front fascia, and rear fascia. Meanwhile, Gloss Black covers the side mirrors, door sill cladding, roof rack, and headlight rings.
